Celebrating Biodiversity at the Festival of Biodiversity 2024: Singapore’s Biggest Biodiversity Festival
This year’s Festival of Biodiversity (FoB), held on May 25th and 26th at One Punggol, was a resounding success, drawing over 16,000 nature enthusiasts of all ages to celebrate Singapore’s rich and diverse flora and fauna. The festival, held annually in honour of the International Day of Biodiversity and organised in collaboration with the Biodiversity Roundtable, is the biggest biodiversity festival in Singapore. The Guest of Honour was President Tharman, and it was hosted by Minister Desmond Lee.

FoB cultivated a sense of community and collaboration. The event brought together a diverse group of people united by a common passion for nature and a commitment to conservation, with over 20 nature groups, offering fun, interactive booths, workshops, and spotlight talks to educate and inspire attendees about the importance of biodiversity conservation. Volunteers from various nature groups, schools, and communities worked tirelessly to ensure the festival’s success, demonstrating the power of collective action in biodiversity conservation.

Informative displays, hands-on exhibits, and knowledgeable representatives were on hand to engage with visitors, answer questions, and provide insights into the vital work being done to protect our natural heritage.

FoB also featured a series of workshops and spotlight talks that delved deeper into various aspects of biodiversity and conservation.
The workshops, organised by the many nature groups, covered a range of topics, from Sharks and the ocean, to Wildcats in our forests. These workshops incorporated hands-on activities, such as clay-making, mask-making and storytelling to share more about biodiversity and encourage young participants to take an active role in conservation efforts within their own communities.

Speakers included renowned biologists, ecologists, and conservationists who shared their experiences, research findings, and personal stories of working in the field. These talks were both educational and inspirational, shining a spotlight on the incredible work being done to protect Singapore’s biodiversity and motivating attendees to get involved.
FoB is more than just an event; It is a testament to Singapore’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and a celebration of the incredible natural heritage we are fortunate to have. Mark your calendars for the next FoB, and join us in celebrating the beauty and diversity of Flora and Fauna in Singapore!
