What are bees?

Bees are insects belonging to the order Hymenoptera, alongside wasps and ants. Their diet of nectar and pollen makes them some of the most ecologically significant pollinators on Earth. While species like honey bees and bumblebees are well-known for their hives and colony structures, over 90% of bee species are actually solitary, and do not produce wax or honey! Instead of living in hives, solitary bees typically create nests in the ground or wood. The majority of bee species are also incapable of stinging humans, and pose no threat to us.
