The male Ornate Sunbird has an iridescent blue forehead, throat and upper breast, with olive-green upperparts and yellow underparts. The female possesses olive-green upperparts and a pale yellow ‘eyebrow’ and underparts. They share a slender, down-curved bill and white tail edges.

Habitat and ecology
Since it feeds on nectar and insects, the Ornate Sunbird is commonly found foraging for insects amongst foliage or visiting flowering plants, in parks, gardens, forests and urban areas.
