What are marine fishes?

Marine fishes are fish that live in seawater. Fish are the most ancient group of vertebrates – all land vertebrates, including humans, evolved from fish! Many marine fish species are adapted to the specific conditions of the marine habitat they inhabit, such as pH, temperature and salinity. They have immense variation in form and structure, from the typical streamlined mackerel to the vertically-swimming seahorse. While most marine fish live exclusively in marine habitats, some fish (like mudskippers) are adapted to survive on land for periods of time, while others (like salmon) migrate into freshwater to reproduce.
