Both the Common Scarlet and the Common Redbolt are red but the Common Scarlet can be distinguished by the dark line along its abdomen which is absent in the Common Redbolt.

The female Crimson Dropwing has thick black markings along the bottom of its abdomen which ends in a black tip, while the female Common Parasol has broken dark markings along the sides of its abdomen.

They can be distinguished by the colour of their thorax! The Scarlet Skimmer has a red thorax while the Spine-tufted Skimmer has a dark brown thorax.

The Common Amberwing has two pale broken lines separated by a thin dark line along its abdomen, while the Common Parasol has broken dark markings along the sides of its abdomen. They also have different wing colours, with the male Common Amberwing having a more vibrant amber tint, and the young male Common Parasol having a brownish-orange tint.

The female Banded Skimmer has a yellow band at its abdomen with black markings. In comparison, the Yellow-barred Flutterer has two dark bars with yellow in the middle at the base of its hindwings.

The male Blue Sprite has a sky blue body with black markings while the male Common Bluetail has a green head and thorax.
