The Gold-ringed Cat Snake (Boiga melanota), also widely known as the Mangrove Cat Snake, is a stunning, mildly venomous native reptile. They are nocturnal residents most commonly found in Singapore's mangrove swamps, young secondary forests and edge habitats. This species is the most common species of cat snake in Singapore.

The Gold-ringed Cat Snake is characterized by its incredibly glossy, jet-black body crossed with thin, bright yellow or gold vertical bands. It features a large, distinct head that is noticeably wider than its relatively thin neck. Its large eyes have vertical, slit-like pupils that give the "cat snake" genus its name.
Habitat and Ecology
They are highly arboreal (tree-dwelling). During the day, you will often find them resting peacefully, coiled up tightly in the branches of trees hanging directly over the water in mangrove forests. At night, they actively hunt for birds, sleeping lizards, frogs, and even other snakes.
