A common migrant found in grasslands in Singapore, the plumage of the Eastern Cattle Egret (Ardea coromanda) can look very different depending on whether they are in breeding or non-breeding plumage.

When in breeding plumage the Eastern Cattle Egret has a distinctive rufous-buff colouration on its head, neck, breast and back, while the rest of the body is mainly white. When in non-breeding plumage it looks like many of the other egret species, being all white with a short yellow bill, with black legs and feet. Compared to other egrets, it is smaller, stockier and has a relatively shorter bill.

Habitat and ecology
While they can be found alongside cattle in other countries, in Singapore the Eastern Cattle Egrets are usually found in grassland or wetland habitats.
