Habitat and ecology
Little Egrets can be found in any suitable patch of habitat such as Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, and various freshwater and coastal wetlands, the edges of ponds or canals where they can find plenty of small fish, insects, and crustaceans to eat.
You might notice them moving slowly through the water, using their feet to stir up prey before quickly snapping it up with their sharp bills. These birds often feed in groups and are known for their lively hunting style.
