The Tembusu features a deeply fissured, dark brown bark characterized by a rugged, armor-like appearance. When observing the tree's silhouette, point out its distinctive perpendicular branching structure, where the large branches tend to grow outward at sharp right angles from the trunk. During its mass flowering seasons, look up to spot the dense, fragrant clusters of small, creamy-white to yellow flowers filling the canopy.
Habitat and ecology
It is a highly resilient tree capable of growing in poor, compacted soils. The flowers emit a powerful, sweet fragrance to attract butterflies and moths, while its tiny red berries are a feast for fruit bats and birds.
