The Blue Dasher (Brachydiplax chalybea) is an abundant native dragonfly species. They are very common residents of well-vegetated ponds in our parks and gardens, showing a particular fondness for ponds heavily populated with water lotuses.
Identifying features

The male Blue Dasher features a powdery, light chalky-blue abdomen tipped with dark segments at the very end. They possess a strong yellowish tint located right at the base of their transparent wings. Females sport a brown-orange body with distinct dark markings along their back. Additionally, the sides of the thorax are brown, which helps separate this species from the Pond Adjutant.

Habitat and ecology
Males are highly active and territorial in the mornings. They prefer perching motionless on emergent vegetation over calm waters, using the vantage point to fiercely drive away smaller males or to spot passing insect prey.
