The mature male typically features a dark blue thorax and light blue abdomen, distinguished by a dark patch at the base of the hindwing. Females and immature individuals are generally light brown and notably display two dark stripes on the side of the thorax. However, since mature females can sometimes develop a powdery blue coating similar to males, examining the anal appendages is the most reliable method to determine sex. Males possess a pair of appendages that curve inwards like pincers, while females have straight, widely spaced appendages.
