About the Common Parasol in Singapore

The Common Parasol (Neurothemis fluctuans) is a small-sized dragonfly, often found perched around ponds, and is relatively easy to spot. This species is not as shy or flighty as other dragonfly species, and can be approached as close as 30cm without being startled.
Identifying features

The male Common Parasol has a brownish-red body with red patches on all wings with clear wingtips. The outline of this red coloration is a key feature for distinguishing it from similar species in the same genus. The female appears vastly different, with a light brown body, dark abdominal markings, and clear wings.
